Until recently the textile traditions in Peru were in decline. In the 1970’s a group of women, worried about this rapid loss of tradition, decided to recover different cultures, techniques and drawings. The first goal was to work with elders and recover techniques and knowledge to teach the new generation of weavers. The second objective was to build a weaving center in each community where women and men could meet and work, free from the distractions of domestic life and protected from rain.
